Okram Ibobi Singh (born 19 July 1948) is the Chief Minister of the state of Manipur, India. He has held that position since 7 March 2002. He is a member of the Indian National Congress.[1]

Early life

He was born to Okram Angoubi and Lukamani Devi in 1948 on 19 July. He was born in Thoubal Athokpam.[2]

Assassination attempt

On 2 September 2008, rebels in the state of Manipur attacked Okram Singh's house with rocket launchers while he and his family were sleeping. One security guard was injured in the attack, but Singh and his family were unharmed. The attackers have yet to be apprehended.[3] A member of the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak claimed responsibility for the attack via phone, and indicated it was meant as a warning to Singh to stop policies meant to thwart the insurgency in Manipur.[4]
